Excerpts for Reflection

Life is but for [some] decades.
During this period,
One should strive to purify their negative karma,
And accumulate merit and wisdom,
If for the sake of fame and profit,
One wastes precious time without realizing it,
What could be more regrettable than this?

~ Dharmapala, the Tathagata

(Posted by Karmapa, Facebook, 4 November 2026)

Oh how is one budding in one’s Buddha nature (aware of awareness itself). Touching the vast pure qualities. Uncontaminated by adherence to me-self in the mind? Ah, asks the aspiring/engaging monastic yogi, signpost editor.

Pure water… mmm

Prejudice… pre-justice (a pre-load on mind?)

“The greatest of evils is to hold religious prejudice and to criticize other people without knowing their mind. So give up prejudice as if it were poison.

~ Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche)

Why these investigations?

His Holiness the Dalai Lama for example, states that the teachings of the Buddha are meant for service to sentient beings to help understand and remove the causes of suffering.

The use of the tool of clear ultimate analysis for example, whilst mind is still in duality, helps clear confusions into wisdom awareness, thus cutting through suffering otherwise experienced by mind.

[A note as prelude to this quote. This is metaphorical, working with the energy of mind and cutting through conception in the mind. It is referring to cutting through the delusion of self-adherent grasping; (nonviolence of awakening bodhicitta compassionate mind to recognise (through inner awareness), cut through the cause of suffering.

This is no easy task as the unconscious habit has been with sentient beings since beginningless lifetimes unexamined, (time is a construct of the human mind). H.E. Garchen Rinpoche has said not even an atom bomb could cut through self-grasping. It is released through a direct yogic realisation of emptiness of awareness in the consciousness of the student/ practitioner].

Striking the Vital Point ~ Kyabje Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche (Snr)

“What are the three words? ‘View’, ‘Meditation’, and ‘Action’. What does it mean to ‘strike the vital point’ with these words?

If one wants to kill a man and strikes his heart with a weapon, the man will not live another hour. He will die immediately.

What vital point do these three words strike? Just as oil is present in a mustard seed, all of us, all sentient beings, have buddha nature. Though it is present, we do not recognize it, because our minds are obscured by delusions.

When, as a result of the view, meditation, and action, we come to recognize these delusions, we can get rid of them in a moment.

In one day sentient beings can be transformed into buddhas – that is the ultimate view, meditation, and action of dzogchen. Such a power of transformation is called ‘striking the vital point’.”

~ Kyabje Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche (Snr)

Considering religion as training of mind… (not as a fixated state of mind, but as an exercise of mind, a process of living dharma in mindful awareness of the practice, understanding/ developing awareness of reality).

“The very purpose of religion is to control yourself, not to criticize others. Rather, [bring ultimate analysis on] ourselves. How much am I doing about my anger? About my attachment, about my hatred, about my pride, my jealousy? These are the things which we must check in daily life.”

~ H.H. Dalai Lama

[The quote regarding self-examination of anger, attachment, hatred, pride, and jealousy comes from the book: Dzogchen: Heart Essence of the Great Perfection ~ His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama (Snow Lion Publications, 2004)].

Consider shared objective: causes and conditions for clear understanding and awareness to develop.

Interfaith or science and wisdom dialogues for example, has the purpose of bringing forth awareness and wisdom; collective understanding and so forth.

This is necessary for example to help in the shared objective of generating energy of compassion and wisdom, bring good, stable conditions to mind and interactions on the planet-earth; and planting the causes of present and future happiness and development.
